📰. TANZANIA BEGINS PROCESS TO SELECT ITS FIRST NATIONAL BIRD 🔥

TANZANIA Is Set To Join Its East African Neighbors — DR Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Somalia, And South Sudan — In Establishing Its Own National Bird, Marking A New Step In National Identity And Wildlife Conservation.

While The Giraffe Currently Serves As Tanzania’s National Animal And State Emblem, The Country Has Yet To Designate A National Bird. This Is About To Change Through An Initiative Spearheaded By Nature Tanzania, A Conservation Organization Based In Arusha.

According To Emmanuel Mgimwa, Executive Director Of Nature Tanzania, The Organization Intends To Work Closely With The Ministry Of Natural Resources And Tourism To Coordinate The Process.

“We Want The Ministry To Lead In Coordinating The Effort While We Engage The Public To Suggest And Vote For The Bird Species That Best Represents Tanzania,” Said Mgimwa.

Nature Tanzania, Which Collaborates With Birdlife International And Other Global Partners, Has Been Conducting Annual “Bird Of The Year” Polls Since 2023. The Group Now Hopes To Officially Name Tanzania’s National Bird By 2030.

Gaudensia Mariki, The Organization’s Marketing Officer, Emphasized That Such Initiatives Help Raise Awareness About Bird Conservation.

“Birds Are Facing Threats Of Extinction, And By Recognizing Species As ‘Birds Of The Year’ Or Designating A National Bird, We Highlight Their Importance And Promote Conservation,” She Said.

Tanzania Is Home To Over 1,200 Officially Recognized Bird Species, Making It One Of Africa’s Richest Avian Habitats. Yet, As Mariki Noted, The Country Still Lacks A Single, Symbolic Species To Represent It On The Global Stage — A Gap The New Project Aims To Fill.
